Grizzly Single Shot .50 calibar BMG in Tremors 2: Aftershocks

RoleEdit

Tremors 2: AftershocksEdit

Burt Gummer first revealed this sniper rifle in Tremors 2: Aftershocks and carried it as his backup weapon throughout his time in Mexico during the film. He used the last shot of this gun with great affect in Tremors 2: Aftershocks to take out a Shrieker at long range blasting it apart. However it continued on through the cement wall wooden beams, oil barrels, an outhouse, all the way into a car through body into the engine apparently puncturing the transmission tank and continued for about five miles after that.

He later discarded it while being chased by three shriekers, he threw it on the ground, and then hid in a tractor bucket.

Tremors 3: Back to PerfectionEdit

It is possible to assume that the gun that Burt loads in the third movie is either the original gun (the theory being that he went back for it after the Shriekers are gone) or a different one (Theory: Burt has recently bought a replacement). Burt got it out to kill an albino graboid in "self defense", but he let it go. It was later destroyed in a fire, but he replaced it with a Barrett M82 in Tremors: The Series.

Basic DescriptionEdit

Burt used the "Grizzly Big Boar" 50 caliber BMG. This rifle fires the 50-caliber BMG (Browning Machine Gun) cartridge which (according to Burt) was originally used in World War I as an Anti-Tank cartridge, although in reality it did not enter service until 1921. He claims he had the rounds custom made and were based off of a WWI anti-tank cartidge. The armor pirecing cartridge he refers to is most likely the Mauser Anti-Tank Rifle of 1919, the world's first rifle designed to penetrate armored targets.

The Grizzly Big Boar is a .50 BMG sniper rifle developed by L.A.R. Manufacturing Inc., a gunsmithing firm. It comes in a variety of finishes, from Standard Blue to Stainless Steel. Aside from these finish options, the rifle is a Bullpup single-shot gun, also featuring a pistol grip and bipod. As of 2007, this gun is highly unavailable to civilians, except with proper licensing, but the model itself goes at around $2,540-$2,800 U.S. dollars today.

TriviaEdit

  • This gun was purchased by Tremors 2: Aftershocks Producer Nancy Roberts for a reported $3,000 and later presented to Tremors 2: Aftershocks Director SS Wilson as a present.
  • In the Movies Burt said that he had based the bullets of anti-tank rounds and were cast in bronze.
  • The real guns actual 50 caliber shells cost around $2.12 each when last checked.
  • These allow the “maximum penetration” effect that Burt was looking for able to get at and wound while still in the dirt.
  • The 50-caliber BMG cartridge is still used by the US military today.
